Increasingly artists are making use of vacant high street shops, commercial units or slack spaces to realise art projects; to create pop-up or guerrilla galleries and to establish studio facilities.

This website stems from research carried out through dialogue with artists who are developing slack space projects and aims to highlight a ubiquitous area of contemporary arts practice which can be ignored at a policy and funding level.

Through a process of self-publishing a text titled Art in Slack Spaces, which aims to mirror the DIY aesthetic of the projects being discussed and by distributing the document back into slack spaces projects, it is hoped to place an analysis of a new development in Irish contemporary art and society back into its context for further dialogue and discussion.

The text is also available to download, see link above.
